MySource Embeds MySpace Music Player on Facebook

Here's a ironic twist on a long running story.  MySpace has been at times passive and aggressive on the embedding of applications and widgets on its profiles.  Of particular interest are the music players so important to the monetization of online music.  Recall when MySpace reminded Tila Tequila about the ToS when she supported Hoooka on her profile.   Hoooka competes with the officially sanctioned SnoCap player store.

Calen Michael Fretts' (of Virginia Tech) "underground" application MySource allows a FaceBook user to embed the MySpace player of any band.  Just install the MySource application and submit the MySpace url stub of the band.  Voila!

this sounds like the ultimate evil. one of the few reasons I use facebook is that it doesn’t have embedded music players like myspace.

Matt, you have to click MySource application to activate the music player. Like it or not, the Facebook profile will surely evolve into being more colorful and cacaphonous. But Facebook profiles have a social depth that MySpace profiles lack, and it’s not clear that music will turn out to be a centerpiece. As we are seeing, the F8 open ecosystem promises a wide array of customization options, most of those applications are playful and socially useful, not noisy. I think Facebook management — and independent developers like Frett — are careful to keep the profiles quiet, eg with the players in a click to play default mode.

So far Facebook sux. The few applications it has is slow and not so easy to operate. Why don’t they just call it what it is, the reunion site so you can look at photos of familys of your former classmates that you don’t ever talk to. Petty boring. Does not really allow you to express exactly the type of person you have become over the years. The music player sux also. Difficult to load and does not play automatically. Myspace has you beat by a mile at this point.

THE APP DOES NOT WORK - FACEBOOK SAYS THERE IS A ERROR - IS THERE ANY OTHER FACEBOOK APP THAT WILL ALLOW YOU TO EMBED OR POST YOUR MYSPACE MUSIC PLAYER?
