Zypsy — Voice to Search Results

zypsy logo

Zypsy is a cool variation on the schemes to offer value to mobile users by converting voice to text. Recall that Copytalk, Simulscribe, and SpinVox convert voicemails to email and SMS text messages. Aangel specializes a bit by converting short snippets of voice commands into reminders and calendar entries. Zypsy furthers specialization by converting common location and commerce related web searches left as voice messages into SMS results: finding online prices, getting directions to stores, locating the cheapest gas stations, receiving directions for public transportion, getting coupons, etc. Like the other four services Zypsy also uses human intervention to produce the results, so scaling will be an obvious problem.

It's easy to find prices from mobile friendly online retailers like Amazon, but to get a range of prices or to look up information for transportation, especially when bus routes are involved is a huge pain. Depending on how well they execute, this could be a useful service. If they don't charge for the service, they could make money insert ads ala 800-FREE-411.
